peta Whisper turns your speech into text wherever you are typing. On a Mac, hold fn (or tap it once to go hands-free), talk, and the words are typed into the app in front of you. On iPhone, the peta Whisper keyboard does the same in any text field. The app is free with an API key you bring from a speech-recognition provider, which bills you for what you use; or subscribe to Pro and dictate on peta Whisper’s own keys.

Microphone

So the app can hear you. It records only while you hold or tap the dictation key, sends the clip to the speech provider you picked, and deletes it once the text is back.

Input Monitoring (Mac)

So the app notices when you press and hold fn while another app is in front. It watches the modifier keys only, not what you type.

Accessibility (Mac)

So the app can paste the text into the app you are using, and look at that field right afterwards to learn a word you correct and add it to your dictionary. If text doesn’t appear, open System Settings › Privacy & Security › Accessibility and make sure peta Whisper is switched on. If fn opens the emoji picker instead, set “Press 🌐 key to” to “Do Nothing” in System Settings › Keyboard.

Full Access (iPhone keyboard)

iOS asks you to allow Full Access for the peta Whisper keyboard. It needs it to send your speech to the provider you picked and to read the settings you made in the app.

API keys

Which key do I need?

We recommend Soniox for live dictation in English, Chinese and mixed languages: get a key at console.soniox.com, choose Soniox in Settings and press Verify. Google Gemini, OpenRouter (openrouter.ai/keys) and iFlytek keys work too.

Where do my keys go?

They are stored on your device and sent only to the provider they belong to. If you sign in, Cloud Sync keeps an encrypted copy so your other devices can use them. See the Privacy Policy.

What does it cost?

On your own keys the app costs nothing: each provider charges your own account for usage, usually cents for a day of dictation.

peta Whisper Pro

What is Pro?

A US$20-a-month subscription that runs dictation on Soniox v5 and Gemini, Polish and word suggestions on peta Whisper’s own keys, so there is no API key to get or paste. The free app and Pro are the same app; only whose keys it dictates on differs. See what Pro includes.

How do I subscribe?

Sign in to your account pageand press Subscribe to pay with a card, or open Account in the iPhone app and subscribe through the App Store. One subscription covers every Mac and iPhone signed in to that account; press Refresh under Pro in the Mac app’s Account pane if it doesn’t show up within a minute.

How do I know it’s working?

In Settings, the key field for a Soniox or Gemini model is replaced by “Included with Pro”, and the Account pane says Pro is active with the hours used this month. OpenRouter and iFlytek models still use a key of your own.

How do I cancel?

Website subscriptions: Manage subscription on your account page. App Store subscriptions: Settings › Apple Account › Subscriptions. Pro lasts to the end of the paid month, then the app goes back to your own keys.

Cloud Sync

What does it sync?

Your API keys and settings, dictionary, replacement rules and history, so your Mac and iPhone share the same copy. Sign in from the app to turn it on; an account is optional.

How do I sign a device out?

Sign out in the app, or remove the device under Signed-in devices on your account page. Its next sync is refused and the rest of your account is untouched.

Deleting your account

In the Mac or iPhone app, open your account settings and choose Delete Account. On the web, sign in to your account page and use Delete account at the bottom. Either way the account, all synced data and your signed-in devices are erased immediately. What the app stores on your device stays there until you remove the app.
